| Description: | An advertising poster from 1885 for the Fred. Oppermann Jr. Brewery in New York City. This ad promotes the brewery's Bock Beer. A young lassie holds a mug of beer in one hand and three more in the other. At her side is a goat, the universal symbol of Bock Beer. Behind her is a wooden beer barrel draped with hop vines. At the lassie's feet is a turtle. Though it is not stated anywhere on this print, Frederick Oppermann's brewery was known as the "Turtle Bay Brewery" -- hence the turtle. In very small lettering, to the right of the goat's front hoofs is the name of the designer and/or lithographer: "By H. Schile." |
