| Description: | An advertising lithograph from 1894 for the E. Tosetti Brewing Company of Chicago, Illinois. This poster promotes the brewery's "Celebrated Champagne and Bohemian, Export and Lager Beers." The print features a busty lass sitting high atop a pillar. In one hand she holds a glass of beer, admiring it lustily. In the other, she holds a bottle of Tosetti's Beer. Beneath the company name is the brewery's logo. It contains a pair of eagle wings attached to a malting shovel. (Malting is the first step in the brewing process, symbolized here by the necessity of frequent turning, by shovel, of the barley as it lays germinating on the malting floor.) Also included in the logo is a wooden beer barrel, hope vines, and barley stalks. The latter two represent two of the fundamental ingredients in beer. At the lower right of the poster, in very small lettering, appear the words, "Copyright 1894. By the Gribler Bank Note Company, Chicago." |
