Each year prior to National Prohibition, the publishers of the Western Brewer magazine in Chicago issued the "Brewers Hand Book." It was a pocket-sized publication featuring a variety information for brewmasters and brewery owners. Every edition contained hundreds of ads for brewery-related equipment and materials.
The bulk of each issue consisted of the "Brewers List." This was a complete list of every operating brewery in America, arranged by city and state. Each brewery entry contains the address and an indication of the types of beer brewed (ale, lager, porter, weiss beer, etc.) and whether they operated their own malt house and/or bottling house.
Also included in the Hand Books are:
-A List of brewmasters in America, Canada and Mexico
-A List of Brewers. Associations
-A List of Hop Dealers and Maltsters
-A List of Maltsters
-Lists of breweries in foreign countries
-Internal Revenue Regulations for Brewers
In this 1912 edition, the editors began adding more information to the individual entries in the "Brewers List." In addition to the address, the type of beer brewed, and info on malting and bottling, most entries in this 1912 edition also include the names of the directors of the company and the name of the brewmaster.
This 1912 edition is a navy blue hardback copy with gold stamped lettering. The book contains 277 pages and measures 4.25 x 8.75 inches. Condition is very good. Cover shows only light wear and corner bumps. Binding is strong and all inside pages are clean.
