More about this image...
| Description: | An advertising print from 1880 for the Julius Winkelmeyer Brewing Association, St. Louis, Missouri. This poster promotes the brewery's Lager Beer. The poster features three vignettes. On the left are gnomes adding malt to the brewery's mash tun while another fires it from below. On the right are gnomes enjoying the fruits of their labor, heartily drinking beer. The center vignette is a depiction of the Wainwright brewery buildings in St. Louis. Flanking the brewery scene is a man holding hop vines and a woman holding barley stalks--hops and barley being two of the main ingredients in beer. On either side of the center illustration are the captions "Barrel Beer Shipped in Refrigerator Cars" and "Bottled Beer for Export." Also present are two illustrations of bottles of Winkelmeyer's Lager Beer. In very small lettering at the bottom of the print appear the words, "Copyright 1880. Julius Wainkelmeyer Brg. Assoc. St. Louis, Mo." and "Witteman Bros., importers of Art-Lithographs, New York." |
