In 1876, Frank Faulkner published The Art of Brewing and quickly became one of the late 19th century's most respected authorities on the scientific study of brewing. Two years later, in response to the wide popularity of the book, Faulkner released a second edition. This new edition included a fifty-page appendix in which the author expands upon many of the ideas put forth in the first edition, and includes several illustrations. He also takes the opportunity to explain the importance of his writings, at a time when brewing worldwide was in the midst of a great transition from largely empirical to thoroughly scientific. Prior to his essays on brewing, Faulkner contends, most brewers had "but scanty knowledge of the theories upon which the art of brewing is really based." His aim was to correct that state of affairs. As a result, the book offers a detailed look at the state of brewing science during the 1870s. Chapters: - Water

CONDITION: Very Good. Minor corner bumps, otherwise cover is clean and bright. Inside, former owner name in ink in two spots. See pics. Pages very clean accept for an occasional age spot. Binding strong. Overall a very nice copy.
