Description:Advertising poster from 1882 for George Ehret's Brewery of New York, New York. The print advertises the brewery's Bock Bier, i.e. Bock Beer. Featured a large goat head, the symbol of Bock Beer, surrounded by decorative graphics that include hop vines and barley stalks, representing two of the main ingredients in beer.
Note:During a portion of the mid- to late-1800s, the George Ehret Brewery was the largest-producing beer company in America. George Ehret died in 1927. After Prohibition, the large brewery complex, located on the upper east side of Manhattan, was absorbed by its next-door neighbor, the Jacob Ruppert brewery.
